b. Replica of Fort Necessity
The replica of Fort Necessity built on the historic site in western Pennsylvania, after extensive archaeological research by the National Park Service. On July 3, 1754, the British Virginia Militia, commanded by twenty-two year old Lieutenant Colonel George Washington, surrendered to a superior French force after a day long battle. It was Washington’s only battlefield defeat.
